BBT Fab 1959 Impala

When BBT Fabrications set out to reimagine this 1959 Chevrolet Impala, the goal was anything but a traditional bright-chrome finish. The car’s deep blue paint, refined bodywork, and modernized details called for something darker and more understated, so the exterior trim, grille, and bumpers were finished in black chrome to complete the car’s stealth-inspired look.

Black chrome is all about balance. The finish needs to retain the depth, reflectivity, and precision expected from a properly plated part while bringing the darker appearance that makes it stand apart from traditional chrome. On this Impala, that contrast works especially well against the blue bodywork, giving the familiar late-’50s brightwork a much more modern attitude.

The finished result is subtle from a distance but impressive up close. Instead of overpowering the body lines, the black chrome allows the shape and craftsmanship of the Impala to speak for themselves while tying together the car’s custom bumpers, grille, and exterior trim. It’s a perfect example of how changing the finish of a familiar piece can completely transform the character of a classic car.
